First, know your Google Account credentials.
This is absolutely essential.
If you're unsure of your user name, go to
settings and look for Accounts.
This will list all of the Google Accounts synced to your phone.
Next, launch a private
browsing window such as Incognito mode in Chrome.
Go to accounts.google.com
and sign in to make sure you've got the
right password.
The second thing to check is your backup options,
so you don't lose your photos,
contacts, and other data.
Go into System settings and look for Backup.
You are now ready to do the final step, resetting your phone.
The best way to reset your
phone is through a trusted reset in the
settings menu. Look for the reset option
and tap 'Factory Data Reset' and then at
the bottom select 'Reset phone.'
There are few other ways to reset your phone but they
are considered untrusted resets.
Some examples- resettings through the recovery
mode menu, Find My Device, dialer commands,
or using a computer to install a ROM.
If you do any of these untrusted resets,
Device Protection will be triggered.
It is a security feature designed to deter thieves.
When Device Protection is
triggered the Setup Wizard prompts you
to sign in with a Google Account on the
device when the phone was reset.
You won't be able to continue set up until
that Google Account has been verified.
